Our next stop was a small town called Maidenwell, a charming village with a population of 199. Their local hotel offers free camping behind their premises. As it had become quite cold (freezing cold!) we went inside their quaint pub and sat right in front of an open fireplace. We chatted to the locals and a group of motor bikers that had arrived from Brisbane, just about stiff from the cold.
It was pretty chilli during the night although we were snuggly warm in our bed but we both didn’t want to get up in the morning. The wind was howling and rocking the van and it must have been less than 5 degrees outside of our duvet, so getting up was a challenge. At about 9AM we managed and decided to pack up and go and choose a camp further north. I never thought that Queensland could be that cold but probably only read about the places closer to the sea. I was wearing my gloves eating my muesli!
On the right are some photos from our travels through the outbacks. Bulla loves those 'Tina Turner' trees!
