Florida Fantasy

We spent 4 days in Seffner at the Lazy Day Campground. A very large campground that accommodates around 300 RV's and trailers. Nice campground with a large pool, tennis courts and restaurants. One of the restaurants, called Exit 10, is built to look like an RV with bump outs where tables sit. The bar stools are made from chrome wheel rims. Very clever.

Wed. March 7th: We traveled about 2 hours from Homosassa to here. Got settled in and then attended a BBQ dinner at the Rally Center here at Lazy Days.

Thursday, March 8th: Went to the Tampa Aquarium in the AM. The traffic was unbelievably bad. The aquarium was nice but the trip was not worth it. Coming back was even worse. It took forever to get back to the camp.

We then took a ride to Safety Harbor a small town outside of Tampa. Cute little downtown. We had lunch at Southern Fresh. Tim had a fried cat fish sandwich and cole slaw. Pat had a chicken salad with fruit.

Delicious.

We then went to Dunedin, another small town that is very artsy with a lovely downtown. Strolled around enjoying the sunny day by the water.

Friday, March 9th: We headed to Tarpon Springs this morning. It's everything Greek. Greek eateries line waterfront Dodecanese Boulevard, a legacy of the Greek sponge divers who settled here in the early 1900s. Along the water, the Historic Sponge Docks are a

reminder of the once booming industry. We took a boat ride out into the harbor to a small barrier island. We got off the boat for a brief walk along the beach known for it's sea shells. We began looking for shells but quickly realized that they would end up where all the other beach shells we collected over the years. So, we just enjoyed the walk. It was an enjoyable ride. The guy who narrated our trip was a state certified naturalist and was very knowledgeable. What made it even more enjoyable was his sense of humor. He and the captain bantered back and forth keeping us all laughing.

Afterwards, we had lunch at the Rusty Bellies. We split a bowl of Seafood Gumbo, side salad and blackened grouper tacos. They also served a bag of hush puppies. All delicious.

Saturday, March 10th: Today was a free day. We decided to head down to Venice. Had dinner at Luna, a family-style restaurant. The food was plentiful and tasty. From there we went to the Epiphany Cathedral which is the seat of the Diocese of Venice.

Very nice area but crowded and lots and lots of traffic. This area is growing and can't seem to keep up with the cars. It didn't matter what time of day you traveled.
