Limon, Costa Rica

Over the years we’ve heard a lot of good things about Costa Rica ("Rich Port") and we were looking forward to our visit there. We arrived in the coastal city of Limon (Spanish for lemon) at 7:30 AM. Limon is the capitol of Costa Rica and the sixth largest city at 55,000. Limon has a large Afro-Caribbean population because the country didn’t recognize them as citizens until 1948 and restricted their movement to that region of the country until then, firmly establishing these people in that area up until now.

We didn’t have much time to explore the country (half a day), so we signed up for a river excursion on the Tortuguero Canals. It was well done in that the river guide pointed out several animals and fowl that you won’t see in the US, like sloths. Getting pictures of them are impossible because they hide in distant trees and never move. After the trip, a nice local meal was provided by friendly people, so it was was a nice half day.

We thought this would be a nice country to explore with more time, particularly on the west coast side where the resorts are located.

Back at the ship we enjoyed the abundance of food...again!

Tonight and the next day we will be at sea to travel 570 nautical miles to George Town, Grand Cayman.
