After a rainy morning in Kep, we arrived in Kampot and checked into a nice guesthouse near the promenade. It was a lovely location, for we were able to go for walks and see the little shops and pubs of Kampot for once last visit. Around evening we had a few beers, and then hunted for supper amongst the many street stalls. It was quite an interesting meal - a Chinese pork bun here, banana-in-rice cakes there, and a pumpkin and custard desert somewhere else. The banana cakes are yummy and quite an art: cooked rice is tightly packed around a banana, and then the entire cake is wrapped in a banana leaf and slowly cooked over some coals. The pumpkin and custard dish is a staple dessert of the Cambodians; and it's surprisingly delicious. After all these snacks, we eventually settled down to a small pizza on the side of the street, run by an Italian that had decided to join to the locals and set up a street-food shop. It was quite fun.
