Laters London - MC and JD's adventure back to NZ

After a much needed sleep in and a bacon roll courtesy of our generous airbnb host we ventured out to explore some more of Nairn.

Another brilliantly sunny day was helping Nairn live up to its reputation as one of the sunniest and driest places in Scotland. Nairn has a fishing and market town history and was also where the Victorians flocked to in the early 1900s in order to heal themselves in the magical waters of the Moray Firth. We have yet to venture far enough into the water to see if it really does have magical powers!

After a wander down the promenade and down the main street we had a quick lunch with the host's gorgeous pooch and then made our way to the recommended local distillery, Benromach.

There are four main regions of whiskey distilleries in Scotland. We are in the Speyside region which has over half of the distilleries in Scotland. Benromach is a small family run distillery which produces around 380,000 litres of whiskey per year the traditional way. Although this may sound like a lot, bigger and more commercial distilleries may produce up to 1,000,000 litres per month! We had a great tour of the distillery, learning about the history of the family business and the whiskey making process before tasting a wee dram of the 10 year. Crom's opinion was that it was good drop.

A bit of a drive through the countryside past two castles and back to our accommodation for dinner and an early night before our big day on the Orkneys tomorrow.
