The dream came true today.
When we awoke the wind had dropped and the sun was shining. It was still a tad cold as we loaded up our bikes and headed off. After an hour the wind eased again to become the perfect head wind. Not too strong that we struggled. Strong enough to cool us. Not too strong to make us cold while having a picnic. Strong enough to keep away the midges. For the first time in six weeks we were not wearing our wet weather gear.

The scenery was époustouflant. (My go-to word when English fails me). It was one of those rare places in the world that had 360 degrees stunning views. The first half was all uphill – slowly – and once again we had problems with speeding motorists. I changed my tactics and every time I judged they were going too fast I would swerve off the road before I was forced to, and let them pass. That took the “wobble factor” out of the equation. ( at 4 kms per hour you often wobble).
I did fall off the road once, but this time it was my own fault. The view was so amazing I forgot to watch the road. But at a crawl it did not result in any real problems.
At Loch Eriboll we had yet another stunning view of the sea loch while we lathered up in sun screen. The small lakes and the waterfalls just kept on coming. We made Scourie where I rather stupidly did not top up with water ( even though I was empty). After 2 big hills and buckets of sweat we found a parking bay with a spot to put up our tent. It looked out over a sea loch with massive great peaks in the background. It was like a summer's day in New Zealand. The flies took a big liking to our sweat and several bites later we got out the Deet.
But there was a price to pay as we found out in the middle of the night.
