AUSTRALIA

Landed here on Australia Day, and the roads were shut due to an Extinction Rebellion March (they have a point!), and then a huge outdoor food and crafts market by my hotel. My driver Harry walked the last bit with my luggage for me, which was great. I dropped my luggage off in my room and walked around the market, lots of lovely things and reminded me of our Christmas market it had an exciting vibe with music and pubs overflowing with people. Then in the evening I got a bit dressed up and went to the pool area on the roof overlooking the classic Sydney view of the Opera House and Bridge. The harbor was full of parading yachts with colour coordinated lights dancing away, and as it got darker the Opera House was lit up, once with pictures of the firefighters dealing with the terrible bushfires New South Wales has had to cope with. A live TV show was being filmed opposite and played on someone's mobile, including local pop stars and Nessus Dorma being sung. (Means Never Sleep and Sydney doesn't!) The best bit was as it got darker all the boats were lit up and from a barge in the harbour an amazing firework display was shown. What a fabulous start to this last leg of my trip!
