AUSTRALIA

Melbourne City is arranged on a grid making it easy to get around by tram, although I continue to develop my walking, and in one day I did 35000 steps! I took a tram to see Albert Park F1 missing Stu, walked to the Docklands to see the ships coming in and to the river at Southbank to visit the art galleries. I ate at the Riverside restaurants and had coffee in the lanes and arcades. I enjoyed the shopping too, although 1 day produced torrential rain that soaked through all my clothes, it is a 4 seasons in one day place as the next day was up to 30°C. Nick joined me for a few days and we went to the beach at St Kilda, with its famous Luna Park, a bit like Southport. The main reason Nick came was for the tennis, and we had a great day on 22nd at the Australian Open. Seeing Leyton Hewitt and Tony Roche, previous winners practising with local hopeful John Millman was great, as well as seeing the live tennis between Ann Li and Miss Sophia Neffin who won in the end! On arrival here it was sunny but a huge dust cloud from the bushfires came one day making it difficult to breathe for some. The rain that followed turned the River Yarra and everything around bright orange from the iron in the soil. I managed to meet my old friend Dion, who visited mum and dad some years ago, and we had a drink at the little bar in the middle of the bridge over the river. We met at an old shot tower inside Melbourne Central station! The time was nearly up all too quickly, loving the things I had seen, the food I cooked from the market. One thing I did fit in was a visit to the NGV museum where artist Kaws did some fantastic work using his characters in all sorts of ways. His work with Snoopy made me very emotional.
