AUSTRALIA

As the final days in this city are here I have been trying to see as much as possible. A trip along the Great Ocean Drive gave me a fabulous view of the coast on a full day trip with Bunyip tours and a very knowledgeable guide who was doing a wildlife doctorate. She had worked with Koalas and knew just where to look we saw at least 12! We stopped for coffee by an inlet in Anglesea and then for lunch in a lovely little place called Apollo Bay, and I grabbed a delicious gluten free meat pie to go with my picnic and sat on the beach watching the surfers and children enjoying the waves. We then went inland where we saw the koalas, which our guide was able to show us and we stopped several times to photo. We also saw a "ghost" forest were sadly a large no of koalas had been taken and kept there until they had eaten all the leaves and they were starved to death, or had to be put down. The trees did not recover from this and now look on like an awful memorial to this terrible error. We then visited a lighthouse before getting to the coast. We went on the Great Ocean Road a windy road built by soldiers returning from WW1 to give them work and now it us a memorial to them. We then got to the place to see the best of the coast and the photos do not do it justice. The views of the beauty of the ocean, the "12 apostles" and limestone ridge Razorback were just stunning! ! Finally we stopped briefly for dinner at a Chinese before our 3 hour drive back. It was the best thing I did on this Melbourne trip!
