Week 8

09.21.2015

This week was family-recipe-week.. On Monday we had 'wentelteefjes' for breakfast. Milk, eggs and sugar in a bowl, mix it, dip the bread and bake it! After that I asked my sister for the recipe of 'schuimpjes' which I almost all ate in one day *mjam mjam* I reminded me a lot about when we used to make them a lot and trying to get the ovensettings right (and just to lick the bowl with heaps of batter in it) :D

Nanma showed us a video about a science project with milk, food coloring and dish soap. Since we had leftovers of the wentelteefjesmix (mostly milk anyway) we tried it straight away. It was really cool to see the colors move and mingle.. Thank you Nanma for the cool idea!

The weather was not that great, but that didn't keep us from doing al sorts of amazing things. We painted, colored and stamped the entire alphabet. Jack learned to use scissors (Grace had her own plastic non-cut-your-own-fingers kind) and we painted our salt dough shapes. I promised an entire colored rice table, so I had to keep my promise and I'm so happy I did (except when they tipped over the rice and I had to pick it up again, thank you birds for helping me!) And the cherry on the cake was the box. Starting with a simple box, going to a box with windows, going to an extra box with all of the above and turned into a castle! SWEET! I even love it and yes, I do fit in there too! At one point the three of us all got into the smallest box... Jeej!

After all the family dishes it was time to try out something new. Apple crumble! I've always liked it, but never made it myself. Thanx to my helpers (Grace put the apples in the tin and Jack did the rest) it turned into a very tasty dessert. We had some leftover lemon juice so we had to try how that tasted. Hi, love those cute sour faces.

As soon as the weather was a bit better, we went outside to feed the ducks, ride on our bikes and even check out Martina feeding the young calves... It was nice to see how that went. The McLeod-feeling came back very quickly. Especially because I was sitting on the back of the bike (with Allan.. Pronounced the same as my name, so a bit confusing..) Ben was a very sweet dog and listened rather well. Gus had such bad manners! Ieuw, he licked the wee from a cow... Ugh! I payed attention so he couldn't give any kisses to the kids anymore after that!

The weekend started with a laid back Friday with trying to get up to date with everything and doing heaps of useless things on the computer (including making a few postcards).

Saturday was time to go on a trip again (finally) with Lotti, Audrey and Grainne. Mt. Hutt, here we come! We drove to Methven, got on a bus up the mountain and saw *nothing*
Time for a morning drink and snack and try again a bit later. It was a bit more clear so we could see a bit in the valley and a bit up the hill and even went for a little walk. After that it got very cloudy again so we went in for lunch and lots of chatting. The bus back left at three and then we had heaps of time to prepare for our evening. Drinks with Kira, Anna and their friends (or should I say tinder date and his friend ;) ) at Braided River and after a few hours to Print Room (without Kira who forgot to bring her passport =S )
Despite this, it was a very entertaining evening (getting a hug from some random guy, saying I looked cute and after a while the same guy saying "I'm a London guy, looking for some fun with Kiwi girls" wrong girls, dude!)

Unfortunately the night was short because of the deprive of the hour and the warmth in my bedroom. It did give me some time to go spend with Maddie and co at Pop's before we got a bunch of Kiwi's over for the friends BBQ. I also invited my share of friends: Sven (B) and Guilia (I). They lived here for about a year and are almost going back home to live in Ireland. I had a great time getting to know them better and I really look forward seeing them again!

A pretty normal weekend but with pretty great people (and a very red face from the sun).

Btw, Isobel, you are way way way too cute!!
