My diary

Berlin
So another travel day and this time off to Berlin for a day of sightseeing and shopping.
Berlin is 2 hours north of Cottbus so there has been lots of napping and reading time plus a chance to check out the scenery. Sometimes good not having to drive all the time but then again I like my freedom.
Our time to sightsee is quite small due to he travel time etc. so we arrive at the Brandenburg gates that used to separate East and West Berlin. We observe the path where the wall once stood. Hard to believe it went up over night. We also had the opportunity to walk around and visit the Reichstag which is the scene of so many events around WW2. There was also Mercedes fashion week extravaganza on as well. Although stunningly attractive young women other than my darling wife don't interest me.
I also note how close the US embassy is to the whole precinct. Relatively unprotected as opposed to other places around the world.
We see checkpoint Charlie and there is a big museum and display surrounding the whole thing. We only have 10 minutes unfortunately. So much to see but that is the nature of the tour to give us all just a snapshot of each area. We then drive along the last of the freestanding wall and all its artwork.
We then stop for 2 hours lunch and shopping. Very quick and I managed to get a few things plus contact the family for the first time in 5 years. We have no wifi at the venue for the last 4 days. Frustrating!
We return home for dinner and our usual coaches meeting. However during our meeting the mother of all storms hits us and dumps a huge amount of rain. It is now cool whether for the rest of the week.
I am looking forward to bed as it my first day off in 2 weeks!
