My diary

Adventure time
On the Monday it was our turn to Kayak again. This time in the the Spreewald starting in Burg. This was a classic example of Heinrich's organisation however. As we only have one van we were unable to transport everyone at once to the venue. So at 9.10am ( we were to leave at 9.00am) I was told that we had to follow the concierge to catch a public bus to the place where we Kayak.
No problems (we had a German speaking lad with us) but when we got off at the venue we found that the real venue was still a walk away. We checked Google maps and it was 8kms!!!! So we start walking and tried to ring Heinrich. When we got him (lucky the German boy had a phone) we were going the wrong direction even though it was the direction they wrote for us back at motel.
Finally we made it to the canoes and they were doubles. So I shared with Heinrich. The trip was a 14km round trip. They waterways are canals and there are over 1000kms of different canals. We had to negotiate locks and made a wrong turn but made it to Lunch right on time. A beautiful restaurant ' schlangenkonig ' was our venue and we ate like kings. Although lunch took 2.5 hours as Heinrich spent time organising his Kayak tour for 2016 with the owner. The owner was a Silver medal winner from Seoul in the 4000m team pursuit.
After lunch things went slightly pear shaped. We took a wrong turn based on the locals directions. We went 2.5km the wrong way. Although to be fair the canal we were taking was eerily similar to the way we should have gone.
So we did a u- turn and the mistake added an hour to our journey. We made it back no worries and our trip was a little over 5 hours and we did 22kms. A fair days effort.
So we caught the bus back and had a late dinner.
After dinner we had a tenpin bowling comp which was great fun. During the trip Chris has earned the nickname Sepp Blatter for his wheeling and dealing skills. So during the bowling game our lane started to play up. Often giving us 3 attempts and in some cases 4. As it progressed we were making comments and thanking Sepp for rigging the competition. Needless to say we smashed the kids.
That night was a much cooler sleep. Although I struggled a bit as my shoulder was aching from the days paddling.
