My diary

Day 2
After a superb 10 hr sleep I jumped out of bed hoping to actually start some exercise. Open the doors and it's raining - a message from the heavens and they said stay indoors!!!
Breakfast was a very European affair with boiled eggs, meats (salami) and cereal. Managed to get a cup of tea and food was very nice.
Off to training after our morning meeting. During the meeting we had our first German lessons. A lot easier than Miss Minz in grade 9!
Training was on the turf again but this time the coaches from Elversberg FC took the session. Rouven and Sebastian are young coaches who come from the youth set up at Elversberg FC and Max is doing an internship for his sports management degree and will stay with us for the whole 3 weeks. They will run all the sessions when we train in Brausnhausen and do much of the training the German youth players do. I have been recording the training and creating the sessions so we can share them when returning to TGS.
In the afternoon we went to a local village to watch Elversberg FC 17's play Offenbach Kickers 17's in a play off to see who plays Bundesliga next year. Currently they are both in the Regional League. The score was 3-3 and it was extremely physical match although the football lacked a bit of quality at times. Nykodah Smith could have played there.
We had out first matches that afternoon and the girls played 7 a side. They do this a lot over here at the community level to encourage more numbers. Seems smart to me! The touring team for girls has a very good player, Sarah, who is in the verge of the Kiwi 17's team.
The boys played a local community team (Div 6) called Spiese and we lost the first game 1-0 and the second 2-1. The main difference was they took their chances and we didn't. We outplayed them, even with our younger lads, yet we waste many chances in front of goal. Best players were Mitch McLeod and Nykodah Smith in first game and Tully Willson in the second.
We arrived back at our rooms at 10.00pm and it was still light. Despite this many of us were very ready for bed and were asleep very quickly.
