Perth to Darwin

We got to Geikie Gorge at around 10:00 and discovered that the boat rides were at 8:30 and 9:30 and then no more until 2:30 or 4:30. So we decided to do a hike along the gorge instead. It wasn’t much fun. We were sinking in red gravelly dirt most of the time, and there was no water in sight. So mum, Mali and I turned back. Ms. Narelle, Mr. Bernhard and dad kept going for a bit. We just had time to have a popsicle, when they came back too. They still didn’t see much, so apparently you should do Geikie Gorge by boat.
We drove straight through Halls Creek. We were planning to stay there for one night, but we decided to go through to Warmun Roadhouse.

In Warmun it was my real 8th birthday. When I got up I got one present from mum and dad. It was a big Smiggle pencil case. Then we had pancakes for breakfast. Ms. Narelle and Mr. Bernhard gave me some hair lackies and clips. Grandma and Granddad had already given me a diary with lots of other bits.

Then dad told me that he and I were going to take a helicopter ride through the Bungle Bungles. We went at 12:30. The helicopter was right next to the roadhouse; it was a nice shiny blue. The Bungle Bungles were awesome. Everyone should ride in a helicopter at least one time.
On our drive through to Kununurra, we stopped at a place called “The Grotto”. Grandma remembered it as a place like circular pool; a clear pool at the bottom of a red rock gorge. When we walked to the edge, we realized it was pretty scary and steep. Dad and Mr. Bernhard climbed down, but we weren’t allowed to go. Dad said the water at the bottom was still and a bit murky, so they didn’t swim. We also had birthday ice cream cake there, and everyone had a piece.
