Perth to Darwin

The next day we left Exmouth and drove to the Burkett Rd. turn off. We waited at the corner there for Ms. Narelle and Mr. Bernhard to join us. They were driving up to meet us from Carnarvon. That afternoon we stopped at Beasley Rest stop to camp. It was not a caravan park. The only thing there was a few picnic tables and two stinky long drop toilets. There were also a few round concrete pipes set up to build a campfire in. Mum was hoping we could roast marshmallows over a fire. But it was still drizzling too much to eat outside. So the marshmallows had to wait. We cooked and kept the fridge cold using a gas bottle. We could use the camper van TV and lights on our second battery. The first thing we did was take a walk down a bush track to find the Beasley River. It wasn’t far. The river bed was dry and covered in flat smooth stones. In the river bed were huge gum trees with their roots mostly exposed. It’s a wonder they didn’t fall over! That night our gas bottle ran out, so the fridge turned itself off. Dad went to switch over to our second gas bottle, but that was empty too! So we packed up our camp and headed into Tom Price. It was a nice green, tidy town. We got more gas, petrol, and some groceries at the shops.
