The trip to Melrose was a bit rocky for me. Our bus driver did not feel the need to slow down for turns, so it was a little like riding around in a tilt-a-whirl. And not in a good day. Fortunately, Melrose had a pharmacy and motion sickness meds.
After my very enjoyable lunch of bread, I walked to Melrose Abbey, a 12th century Cistercian abbey. It's also the burial place of the heart of Robert the Bruce, a famous king who led the Scots against the English in the Wars of Scottish Independence (during the late 1200s/early 1300s). The heart was supposed to be buried in the Holy Land, but it didn't quite make it. Scotland's close, right?
