Flew into Christchurch from Melbourne, picked up our rental car, grabbed a few supplies and headed for our first destination, SiloStay at Little River. We dumped our gear and drove to Akaroa, a small French village on the Banks Peninsular, south east of Christchurch and located in the heart of an ancient volcano. Pretty town and harbour, pleasant drive but crappy fish and chips. We had a walk around the town then headed back to our Silo - architecturally original, eco-friendly accommodation, with unique features but a bit impractical (for us).
