Day tripping today to the beautiful Milford Sound in the Fiordland region. Once we arrived we took the Southern Discoveries boat tour of the sound. It was fantastic, got to see fault lines running through the ranges, glacial steps cutting through the mountain tops, a couple of extremely rare Fiordland Crested penguins/tawaki, fur seals lazing on the rocks, the permanent rainbow at the Fairy & Pixie waterfalls, took an enforced shower as the boat pushed under the Stirling Waterfall, saw (in the distance) the last remaining glacier in Milford Sound, Harrison glacier, which will be gone in 40 years, and finally arrived at the confluence of ocean (Tasman Sea) and fjord before returning... What a magnificent thing to do, we'll never forget Milford Sound! On the drive back we saw the Chasm, Homer Tunnel, Falls Creek, Hollyford Valley lookout, Lake Gunn, Knobs Flat, Mirror Lakes (some big trout and little ducks), Eglington Valley... Got back to Te Anau for dinner on the porch and some more of the superb Montana.
