Boring drive to Geraldine on our way to Twizel but then very pretty as we enter the rolling hills, before getting to the mountain lakes region. Stopped at Lake Tekapo to see the Shepherd's church. The lake is a beautiful turquoise colour due to the local rock particles, ground up by glaciers higher up in the ranges, which are suspended in the lake water. Arrived at Lake Pukaki, just as beautiful but bigger, and picked up 1 kg of fresh, local salmon sashimi for $30 (normally 500gms for $30 but had a 2 for 1 deal) and ate half sitting by the lake. Arrived at Twizel, not the most interesting town (developed to house workers when they built the hydro electric scheme). Pleasantly surprised by the accommodation, hosted by Mary and Tim, lovely and clean (beds for 6 people) with all the facilities one could need, cooking and otherwise. Did a shop in town then headed back to Lake Pukaki to enjoy ice cream and an excellent Montana Rose. A big cheers to Michael's Papi!
