This morning our hosts Craig and Michelle prepared a delicious breakfast: full continental with cereal, stewed and fresh fruits, topped off with a full cooked brekkie as well, truly generous... not to mention providing us with great company while we ate it. We headed off with full bellies to Fox Glacier but before leaving Wanaka we decided to sample the weirdness that is "Puzzling World" - good fun before we hit the road again!
We went via Haast and on the way got attacked by the ubiquitous sand flies, especially Olja, whose beige pants seemed to attract them in their hundreds... From then on we spent a lot of time scratching! Once again, it was overcast, with some rainy periods so the drive to Haast was not as exciting as we hoped for. Haast also did not strike us as a place where we would be returning in a rush. The highlight of the day was probably the small Fantail falls, with its "pebble tower beach" created by tourists - it was fun to wander around in the light rain...
We arrived at "Misty Peaks", our next B&B, unpacked and settled in for the next 2 nights. No problem with the room, it was comfortable and clean but the view of Mt. Cook was obstructed by persistent clouds. Michael joined our Dutch hosts Janny and Sytze and the other guests for a complimentary glass of wine and some local cheeses with crackers... Again, very generous and delicious. Olja's wind burn was bugging her so she took time out for a rest, after which we went to town to find something for Olja's burn and made some sandwiches for dinner.
