GEORGIA

The drive to Mtskheta was a very silent one. We were missing Nora and Roman already. We saw many frozen and semi frozen lakes along the way.

And as many travel journals said right Jambori pass is a definite photo stop. This is the highest point you would pass before staring to decent to Tbilisi.

We arrived in Mtskheta and were transferred to yet another hotel Aragvi and apparently Mr. Jamali, the owner of Tamarindi guest house which we booked owns this hotel as well. We got a room on the roof top and baby was much excited to poke the head out from the roof window (made me remember the kid in Home Alone)

Jamali who is a big time tour operator offered to take us on a tour in Matskheta. First we took off to the Chateau Mukhrani winery. and one thing I need to mention is that Jamali was the ONLY person through out the Georgian tour who was able to take a proper photograph. This explains why there aren't many proper pictures of booboo n baby together. Most of our couple pictures are either shaken or crooked (Lol!). Baby was the happiest person about Jamali's photography skills.

Upon arriving at Chateau Mukhrani we were taken on a guided tour in the winery. The restaurant was packed so we could not go for wine degustation.

And then we went on to the famous Jvari monastery. "Jvari" in Georgian means "Cross" and the church has been built centering the first cross made on Georgian soil by St. Nino and up to date the base on which the cross was made is protected. The monastery stands on the rocky mountain top at the confluence of the Mtkvari and Aragvi rivers, overlooking the town of Mtskheta. In addition to the religious importance of the holy site, it it indeed a picturesque location.

After spending some quiet time at the Jvari Monastery we moved to the Svetitskoveli cathedral. This is one of the most important religious sites in the country. This monastery is said to hold the Holy robe of Jesus Christ and part of the holy cross. We were given a very informative tour by one of Jamali's guides.

Svetitskoveli Cathedral is situated in the town center of Matskheta. as we came out Baby was all jumpy jumpy to go on the white horse chariot. Awwwww it was lovely. Booboo and baby rode together in a white horse chariot and lived happily ever after. Lol!

Good night Matskheta. See you tomorrow in Borjome.
