Kutaisi - Georgia

Left early morning to Okatse Canyon. It was a beautiful drive. Snow all over the place. It was a little disappointing that the canyon visitor center was closed due to knee deep snow everywhere. But we were not that sad cz the drive was beautiful with many breathtaking sights. We got off the car and baby wanted to take a picture under the snow covered trees. We took one picture and then we moved to take a picture with the visitor center in the backdrop. Baby was all excited

and was walking very fast forgetting how treacherous snow could be. In a split second Baby slipped and fell and the pain made baby feel dizzy. Booboo made baby to sit back in the car and with time the pain got a little better. So we decided to move on the next destination on our map, which was Prometheus caves. There was fear in both our hearts but we were trying our best not to show it out.

It was a pleasant drive to the caves through valleys. We had to wait for some time as the cave visitor centre until the next tour group was taken in to the caves.

Walking in the caves was very difficult with the injured ankle. But we enjoyed it. They said inhaling inside the cave was good for so many diseases. A limestone cave beautifully lit up.
Later we left to Bagrati Cathedral. A UNESCO world heritage site. A Beautiful Cathedral standing on top of a hill with lush green valleys rolling down the hill. We were lucky enough to witness a Georgian wedding at the Cathedral. The couple was coming out as we entered the premises with a choir singing Georgian folk songs wishing the newly wedded couple. The Choristers were wearing the national costume of Georgia, the Chokha. It was just sheer beauty wherever you look.

After a long and tiring day we came back to the hotel and after removing Baby's shoe we saw that the ankle was swollen so much that we decided it needed a Doctor’s visit. Marika arranged with Lasha to call a taxi and send us to the Hospital. We went to the Hospital and not a single person spoke English over there. They took an x-ray and then we heard the most disappointing news of the century. Baby's ankle was fractured. Like an angel sent from heaven, Marika and the whole family came to the hospital and offered to translate for us. The doctor was all ready to put the cast. And we were like NOOOOOO. We managed to come back home with an ankle support and strict instructions for no walking. It was just heart breaking. We had 12 days more to go and so many cities on plan to visit. Anyways we decided we are not going to change our plan and that we will go ahead with the full tour.

We invited Markia and the family for dinner but they had to attend a birthday party of a friend. So Lavani was our dinner mate. He got us Afghan Kebabs with Georgian bread. Booboo has been introduced to Lavani's fiance and he was telling over dinner how he is planning to take his wedding at the Gelati Monastery.

Just one last word about Kutaisi… Before visiting Georgia Baby read so many articles and Journal notes that different tourists have written about the country and its cities. And among them one line which stuck me was “Kutaisi is a picture perfect city”. I hereby second that statement. Kutaisi is indeed a picture perfect city!!!
