One day we were off visiting my grandma and grandpa and we decided to go to one of the most famous temples in Sri Lanka, Bellanwila temple.
The drive was not too long and about ten minutes away from my grandma and grandpas house. As we parked the car we started to walk off while my dad bought two lotus flowers (one for me and one for my sister) for us to worship once we got inside the temple. Once my dad had caught up with us we walked up to the entrance. The opening entrance was taller than a giraffe and it was as beautiful as a palace.
It was a large archway decorated with detailed carvings made
into the tall structure. We entered the gates and it was such a beautiful sight! But before we went there we had to go to the place where we take our shoes off. So we strode off to the shoe place which was on the left side of us. The man there was quite old and he told us to take our shoes off. He grabbed the shoes off of us, put them in a maroon-coloured drawstring bag and put it in a tiny cupboard.
The first place we went to was the incense sticks and oil lamps. We could have bought some oil lamps with us but instead we decided to make them ourselves. First we put the the cups in followed by the coconut oil and the wicks. Then you light the oil lamps and they are done! Then we placed in the incense sticks and the smell drifted all around the temple. Next we went to the museum looking place. There was so many statues of the lord Buddha it was a lord Buddha museum! Meanwhile my grandma was making platters with kiribath
and gilampasa. We walked around the Bodhi tree feeding it water like we do every time we got to the temple.
Last we went back to the shoe place to collect our shoes and headed home in the car.
