SL Trip

This day was pretty special and it also reminded me of my first day akuru kiyawana function (or in English reading first letters). In Sri Lanka we have this tradition where every baby has a day of reading letters. Today was my sisters special day in the process of reading letters.

The first thing we did was a job for me. Every baby has their parent or sibling write in their special card that is the same for all babies because the picture was designed especially for this occasion. After that I handed it to my mum and then moved on.

First Letters

September 07, 2016

This day was pretty special and it also reminded me of my first day akuru kiyawana function (or in English reading first letters). In Sri Lanka we have this tradition where every baby has a day of reading letters. Today was my sisters special day in the process of reading letters.

The first thing we did was a job for me. Every baby has their parent or sibling write in their special card that is the same for all babies because the picture was designed especially for this occasion. After that I handed it to my mum and then moved on.

In the kitchen my aunties, grandmas and mum were setting up the food which consisted of kiribath, kesel (banana), lunu miris and as for dessert we were enjoying (although I didn't like it the others did) kiri and pani (milk and honey). So after we ate the yummy and delicious breakfast that my relatives had prepared we started to get ready for my sisters special ceremony.

There was a small coffee table arranged in the living room with a milk white table cloth thrown neatly over it. Acandle, the card, some bananas and a plastic bag was placed on top of the white tablecloth.

Inside the bag was a chalkboard, chalk and a couple of books. Firstly we said Namo Thasa and carried on. Then we got out the chalkboard. Using the chalk, my dad drew sinhala letters and asked my sister what they were but she didn't know. Then when they looked at the sinhala book but she didn't know that either. It's okay because she did know the english one.

That was the end of the day and we all settled in for a early night.
