Semester in Ecuador: Quito & The Galapagos Islands

Weather: Sunny, hot, and 82

Sara, Nicola, and I finally found a tour to Bartolome, it ended up being with the same tour agency Kayelyn booked when we were in Santa Cruz! We're going to Banco Pacifico tomorrow to make the payment to the tour agency so fingers crossed all goes well. Nothing too much has happened between Monday and Today. For lunch today, I had my first veggie juice with pasta and pesto from Fresco. The juice was to hopefully help me get rid of whatever is causing this never ending cough and congestion, but I was not really a fan. I'd rather eat a plate of veggies, I did end up getting the entire drink down though which was impressive on my part. Later in the day, I came home to have dinner be pasta with pesto...Tania said Paco wanted it so I think he saw my leftovers from lunch in the fridge and ended up craving it for dinner. I am pasta with pesto'd out!! Twice in a day is a lot, and the fact that I have leftovers ughh boy it's gonna be a struggle come lunchtime tomorrow. Yesterday's dinner was an omelet with tomatoes in it on rice and a side of lentils. It was so good, but the reason I bring this up is because I rarely get two vegetarian meals for dinner in a row. Tania has only made the pasta with pesto one other time since I've arrived here, and the first time was to send me off for Spring break about a week and a half ago. Despite having way too much pasta and pesto in my system I am keeping my fingers crossed for another vegetarian meal tomorrow night as well.

Yesterday I actually started taking a three day round of antibiotics because I've had diarrhea pretty much since the Sunday we came back from break. I have no clue what is causing it but it could've easily been all the apples I ate over break. I washed them with the fresh water I had but that may not have been enough. I was NOT a fan of being on a second round of antibiotics in a two week time period but they were for different things, so I am sucking it up since I can't let these things go or it'll get worse. It's been a day since I've started the antibiotics and I already feel better!

Jumping back to today, I had class and then I stopped at Fresco for lunch and headed home. My plan was to work on homework but instead I got carried away in a job search and applied for 2 more intern positions in Boston. I was a bit stressed today because I don't have a Summer job lined up and I have so many applications out that are awaiting answers. After dinner, I ended up finding a third opportunity to work for Veolia as an EHS Intern so I applied for that as well. I'm really hoping something lines up soon cause the anticipation and wondering what I'll be doing this Summer is nearly killing me. I've really tried to take a step back and recognize that if I have to work a couple part time jobs it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world however, that is easier said than done as it's drilled in our heads we should have internships (especially the Summer before we graduate). It would also allow me to focus on me a bit more this Summer because soon enough the real world will hit me hard. Everything happens for a reason, and I'm trying to live by those words right now.

This morning I actually got a job offer from the Maine government to work with the Economic Development Division in Lincoln, ME. I told the woman Peggy (who is the administrator behind the job posting) that I couldn't take a spot near Augusta over Spring break because it would be too far of a commute and to keep me in mind for something near Orono. I think they were going to offer me a spot with the Maine DEP in Augusta which stinks but I am glad they still thought of me for this spot. Essentially, I would be helping them find ways to increase tourism and how to bring back the paper mill that collapsed years back. It's definitely interesting and a good opportunity however, it's 45 minutes North of Orono and I would still need to pay for rent on a $12/hr salary. If I took the job, I'd probably end up losing money because of gas money and food, and any other expense I'm not thinking of at the moment. It really stinks to have to turn down the people for a second time, but I'm hoping these three applications I submitted today were a sign that something will break for me. In order to destress today, I headed to Punta Carola with Kayelyn, her mom, and her sister to watch the sunset. It was really pretty and there was a sea lion riding the waves into shore and out again which was pretty amusing to watch.
