Semester in Ecuador: Quito & The Galapagos Islands

Weather: Rain, and more rain with a side of sun

Yesterday was Easter in the states. There isn't much of a celebration for the holiday here (at least with my host family). They went to church on Friday and that was it. Things are commercialized here so the idea of an egg hunt and easter baskets are foreign (literally). I had planned on hitting the beach before another busy week of GIS however mother nature had other plans. It rained ALL day long so I literally sat and did nothing. I finished a book and read another short one afterwards. I listened to some music and just chilled all day. It's definitely what I needed because my stomach hasn't been feeling too great lately so it was nice to just hang although I was going slightly stir crazy.

In other news, I got an interview request for an aquaculture internship I applied for back in the beginning of February. It's unpaid but it's another huge opportunity that I needed letters of reference for. The fact that I had to turn that one down stung a bit but looking again at the job description it would be a lot of grunt work and Alaska would be the far better option! Today I received another request for an interview from the Plymouth Marine and Environmental Affairs office. This is a paid opportunity, so I asked if I could work the month of August and she responded with a yes and still wants to interview me! It would be perfect as I would come home and have a job. The commute would be a bit rough but the fact that's paid and with a government agency is a huge opportunity. My mind is blown with all the options I've been presented thus far. I was so down on myself before because I wasn't hearing from anywhere. Here I am getting interview offers for my top choices of jobs. It's crazy and it makes me super happy to know I'm doing something right!! It gives me hope for finding a real world job.

Weather: Sunny with a side of rain in the AM

Today is Tuesday, April 23rd and I didn't feel like making a whole new post. Today, Paco made me an egg and cheese sandwich for breakfast. This was something they didn't know existed in the states or in general. They typically just have grilled cheese for breakfast. I ended up asking for an egg and cheese for dinner one day when Tania was away because I wasn't too hungry. This morning Paco and Tania tried the egg and cheese sandwich for themselves and they couldn't get over how good it tasted, it was pretty hilarious!

I have an assignment due for GIS today, tomorrow, and Thursday. It's a lot of work and I just want to do well and get through the course. I'm happy I have Sara in the class with me as we've been working together on things when we can and if we can't work together on something we still go to the lab together. I'm just happy we have an all day field trip Friday. I'm hoping for some good weather so I can work on my tan a bit more before I go home. My stomach has been giving me a lot of issues between cramps and bloating the past couple of days. I'm not too sure what's going on, but it doesn't seem like an IBS flare up. It's hard to stick to a bland diet here as my host fam doesn't really understand that and a lot of the food here has cheese or some sort of dairy in it. I'll be so happy to see a grocery store when I am home as they are not a thing here...only little tiendas which is why you need to go to several tiendas to find what you need. If you're lucky you'll find everything in one stop but this is rare!
