Semester in Ecuador: Quito & The Galapagos Islands

Weather: Sunny in the AM, rainy and cloudy in the afternoon

Today I started my final class of the semester which blows my mind. Time has flown by and I know these next three weeks will be virtually non-existent so I am trying to soak it up as much as I can. My class is GIS or Geographical Information Systems. My professor is a pretty nice dude and we technically only have 2 1/2 weeks with him. The last week we have class through Wednesday. Thursday he is cutting the class to only an hour so we can all say goodbye to our host families and have time to pack. My flight is Friday at 12:50pm to Quito. So technically, I don't even have 3 weeks left here at this point.

I also heard back from Willow who will be my boss out in Alaska. She said 2 months is totally feasible. The position is unpaid but apparently if I work 1/4 of the time in their non-profit (Alaskan's Own) I can get a stipend so that would be extremely helpful no matter how much it's for. I'm assuming it would at least cover some groceries. I am really excited to have this opportunity and it's a foot in the door with the fisheries industry. The fact that I did this all on my own is really rewarding and it shows that hard work does pay off. It still really hasn't hit me yet, but when I am there and getting hands on experience with the fisheries industry it will be incredible. I will say, I am thrilled it will be 2 months because that allows me to have almost a month to recoup from being abroad and reacclimatizing to America. Then when I return from AK I will have all of August to relax, and work to make some money before returning to Maine for senior year!!
