Today was the day I was able to see the great Cathedral in Chartres. The building was under renovation, so it was impossible to see the inside of the building. The day was very cloudy yet no rain came down. The temperature was cooler due to the time of year, but my coat was more than ideal. The building was unexpectedly massive with its tall nave towering over the rest of the town. The flying buttresses were interesting structures to look at as well as the rose shaped stained glass window. The west portal with the tympanums were amazing with the depictions of Jesus and Mary being very well done and sculpted beautifully. The stained glass windows front he outside were more than impressive, but the fact the structure was 140+ feet tall was more so.
