Our visit to the Fromagerie was lots of fun! The Fromagerie is a smaller factory than I had anticipated. To start our tour, we received some background on the cheese making process and watched a short film on the history of the factory. We then toured the facilities. We got to see the different stages of the cheese making process as well as; the different vats of curdled milk, the workers flipping the cheese, and the rooms in which the cheese matures.
At the end of the tour, we had the opportunity to try three different cheeses. My favorite of the three cheeses was Brie De Meaux. It was accompanied by a delicious Earl Grey jam. I loved the jam so much that I bought some to bring home to my family!
I felt that the cheeses we tried were definitely a little stronger than those in the U.S. I thought that Brie De Meaux was similar to brie cheeses sold in the U.S., but our tour guide explained to us that the cheeses made at the factory are very different from brie cheeses sold in the U.S. At the Fromagerie they use non-pasteurized milk and the cheeses are made 100% by hand.
Overall, I really enjoyed going to the Fromagerie, it was a very unique experience.
