Agincourt Reef is a cluster of five reefs 40 miles east of Port Douglas. touted as being one of the best diving and snorkeling sites in the world, Agincourt Reef is located at the very edge of the Great Barrier Reef along the Reefs Continental Shelf.
Below the crystal clear surface of the Coral Sea, this series of many smaller reefs and channels offer interesting swim-throughs, ledges and walls teeming with a great variety of tropical fish, including angelfish, butterflyfish, parrotfish, sea anemones with their resident clownfish, friendly reef shark and more “whatisits”. These colorful fish are a delight to watch as they dart in and out of the coral formations.
Agincourt is a mecca for serious day trip snorkelers and divers. We are so happy we can experience all this via Nutmeg and not have to book tours and be with the herds of people. The ability to hop around for weeks and see so many remote areas that few tourists have access to is very unusual and special. It is very encouraging to see such a healthy reef. Where there is health there is hope.
