Up early to get in line for the 6:30am ferry – arrived at 5:30 and were told the ferry was canceled due to a navigation error the day before. They rescheduled us for the 6:30pm ferry. Now what? Waited for the coffee shop to open for a couple flat whites. It’s a bonus day to spend in the Picton area - and another scenic drive. More beaches. More beautiful views. More narrow winding mountain roads with: big trucks, crazy bikers, beautiful ditch flowers, cemeteries,,,
A couple things we have enjoyed in NZ:
Mailboxes – besides the large groups of letterboxes, seems most anything is allowed here. In fact, there are competitions for Whacky Letterboxes.
Public Toilets – NZ gets Kudos for the availability of public toilets. Well signed so you can find them most anywhere and everywhere you need “to go”, are very clean, mostly very modern and all free. Downtown Picton’s Loo is high tech which tells you to press the button to lock and unlock the door, tells you when it is locked, that you have a maximum of 10 mintues to use it, plays music while you sit (or stand, I guess), automatically dispenses TP at a touch of a button, has a hand dryer built into the top of the sink area, and as you leave it thanks you! I wish I had taken a video of the whole experience!
Beaver Dam could learn a thing or two here.
Time to get on the ferry and enjoy the sunset.
Hope YOU had a great day, too!
