This is the burial place for wealthy Romans. The sarcophagus is made out of marble and has a lot of very intricate carvings on the outside. The carving on this particular sarcophagus is of a battle scene. On it there are Roman soldier killing and capturing the barbarians. In the middle is the subject of the painting riding a horse into battle. This piece of art yet again shows the importance of war and violence in Roman Culture.
