It rained in the morning and we didn’t really have a plan for the day but it all turned out. We went for a two hour Segway tour of historic Pensacola, our training session included us both doing some “weeble wobbles” as we adjusted to the new wheels. The fastest you could go was 15 mph. It was so much fun! The Spanish tried to set up a colony here in the 1700s, but of the 1500 people only 500 lived and they abandoned it (a hurricane and yellow fever added to their misery) It is the oldest settlement in the USA, he pointed out that St Augustine is the oldest continuously inhabited. The associate of Lee Harvey Oswald hid out here after JFK’s shooting and “committed suicide” by falling through a first floor window and “slashing his throat”, Andrew Jackson lived here as governor when France first sold the land to the Americans. Five flags flew here -Spain, France, Great Britain, USA and the Confederacy. It also had the oldest red light district in the states until the 1940’s when the Navy shut it down as their men were picking up too many diseases! The old part had lots of balconies like New Orleans. In the historic district, any new homes that are built have to look like old homes. We finished our afternoon by searching out a Bar Rescue bar. It is a show that we sometimes watch. They take a bar that is run down or mismanaged and try to turn it around. This one was on their list, but not the normal makeover so I’m not sure if it will be on TV. They just reopened this February and are called the Boat Yard. We had a drink and supper here and look forward to seeing it on the show hopefully. We made a quick tour through Bagdad on the way home, just because...it’s Bagdad.
