Today, like good country folk, we headed off to the Cotswold Show. On the way there we stumbled upon an airfield that must be used as a spare parts field for aeroplanes. At the Show we quickly headed off to see the ancient and modern farm machinery. There were various sized tractors and headers. There was an ancient binder used to cut the crop and make it into sheafs. There was a Field Marshall tractor and a Fordson. Dad recognised them all cos he is old. We dragged Father away and had some morning tea whilst watching some falconry.
We saw a massive steam powered stationary engine driving a wood saw bench, a man melting aluminum into ingots, linen makers, boat makers, chair makers, hedge makers and chainsaw carving.
In the main arena we watched the Shetland Pony Grand National racing. It was rather funny. We also saw a parade of hounds used for hunting. Finally we watched the parade of farm machinery. They brought the machinery out in order of age and use, so the first to emerge where the oldest machines used to plough the soil and finished with the modern machinery used for harvesting and making hay.
It was a wonderful day and the weather was bright and sunny, at last!
