This morning we rose early and managed to negotiate the 600m walk to Kings Cross-St Pancras Station with all of our luggage to catch the Eurostar. We had a set of four seats with a table between. We seemed to race across to the coast of England and soon found ourselves travelling in the tunnel under the English Channel. Eurostar travels around 75m below the water mark and is around 50km in length.
We popped out the other side and Aunty Jean had made it to France. We amused ourselves trying to photograph the passing scenery. Recording video looking straight out the window made you travel sick! Eurostar travels more than 300km per hour.
We arrived at Gare du Nord and then had the challenge of making our way to our apartment. It was a relatively short but chaotic taxi ride. The roads were very Parisian, lined with trees. When we arrived we were all rather disappointed at the standard of the accommodation. It was quite OK inside, but the outside was rather dingy. However, it was a classic Parisian apartment and we were able to open the window wide into the living space, complete with window box and geraniums.
It is a little challenging making your way around a foreign city. We walked back out onto the street and managed to find a supermache nearby. Supplies for dinner, including wine, were sourced and we put together a simple but tasty home meal before heading off to bed.
