Alaska RV Trip

After leaving Hyder, we had four long days of driving to get to Skagway. Northern British Columbia and the Yukon Territory are remote, more remote than ever imagined. You drive for hours without seeing any signs of civilization…nothing but mountains and forest with a ribbon of asphalt winding its way through the terrain for as far as the eye can see. We drove the entire length of the Cassiar Highway and a portion of the Alaska Highway with overnight stops in Dease Lake, BC (basically just an RV park and a gas station), Watson Lake, YT (actually a small town in southern Yukon) and Teslin, YT (a wide spot in the road) before arriving in Skagway.

We did see some interesting sites along the way. We stopped at Jade City (the largest Jade producing site in the world), visited the Sign Post Forest (a place where folks from all over the world mount signs or memorabilia from their hometowns) and crossed the longest bridge on the Alaska-Canada Highway (the Al Can). On our final day of driving to get to Skagway, we once again crossed the Coastal Range Mountains, this time on the Klondike Highway, one of the most scenic roads in America.
