Tayrona National park is a beautiful park on the north coast. You can either hike for 2 hours and stay at the parks campsite which is located on a beautiful beach or hike in and out in one day. We weren't sure if we should stay at the campsite as we had heard mixed reviews. I think the idea of staying over was nicer than the reality of it. Apparently you sleep in a hammock under a tin roof with 20 other people whilst getting eaten alive by mosquitos. We decided to do the 4 hour hike in and out in one day. We were exhausted by the end of it but the hike was worth it for the amazing views, beautiful beaches and we even saw monkeys!
Palomino is a tiny beach town about an hour east of Tayrona, we spent 3 nights here. The beach is stunning but because of the strong currents its extremely dangerous and cant swim in the sea, luckily the river mouth joins the sea so you can relax on the beach and swim in the river. We went tubing on the river on our second day, it was so relaxing floating along the river and taking in the beautiful trees and mountains that surrounded you, whilst the guide tried his best in spanglish to tell us about our surroundings. The guide asked if we were wearing sun cream as the sun was extremely strong, when we said yes and made a joke about Mark's white skin he said 'Si, muy blanco!' (yes, very white!)
