First impressions...
Absolutely not what we expected. We stayed in the old town, few tourists and an air bnb that was almost impossible to find!
On further examination...
We were lucky enough to arrive on Mexican Independence day and ventured out with Callum and Nicole to a street festival. Thousands of locals celebrating with their families, shawarma meats and tacos, children with ear piercing vuvuzelas and fireworks, a feast for the senses!
We decided to live the Cancun life and spent a day on a catamaran. Snorkelling in crystal blue waters viewing the marine life and the underwater museum... a sunken concrete VW bug and a concrete replication of the terracotta warriors (as you would expect in Mexico?!). A quick stop at Isla Mujeres, an island buffet lunch, beers on the sun drenched boat deck and some crazy tequila sculling antics with a cross dressing crew member. All made for an interesting adventure!
