Cookie Para Mi

On first impressions..
More touristy, trendy and upmarket shops, beach side town (let’s be honest though, the beach does not even compare to home! More like swimming in a warm, seaweed soup!)

On further examination…
We ventured out of town on the collectivo, down the busy highway firstly to Cenote Cristalino. Jumping from cliff faces, free diving (for Adam, Callum and Bec only!) through mangroves and underwater caves and pedicures care of the tiny little fish that found our feet particularly delicious!

The second collectivo adventure took us to Playa Akumal. Walking past the hordes of tourist exploiters, we arrived on the white sand beach and with snorkel in hand we simply swam out a short distance to find the tranquil, free range sea turtles! Such a unique and special experience.

Adam and Bec ventured out on a 6 hour return bus ride to Chichen Itza, on the day of the equinox. Armed with a $2 tour guide (recommended phone app which worked a treat!) they buried themselves in Mayan tradition and architecture whilst fighting off the tsunami of salesmen. Sadly the highly sought after view of the serpent shadow would elude them.

Final thoughts…
Excluding Becs brush with a chalk outline of a body on her brief walk along the shops, PDC was fantastic. Adventure packed, sunset swims on the accommodation roof top, evening games of whispernary and some quality time and unique experiences with a fun Australian crew.
