Bangalore

Today and yesterday were all about getting to know the university, the Centre for Social Action and the people. Yesterday we started with some registration at the CSA and after that we were invited to follow some lectures about human rights and rights of women and children. I have to admit the indian english slang was kind of hard to get used to. It is almost a totally different language but after the first lecture I was used to it and was able to follow the lectures which were interesting after all. After that we had a tour around the campus. There are about 4 smaller compounds and one main building that is 10 stories high. There is a big library where you can get books or study and there are many places where you can get some great indian food. Besides that there are many fields to play basketbal, soccer, tennis and even baseball. As you can imagine the campus is massive.

Thursday we had our first formal meeting at CSA with our coördinator Johny Joseph together with other CSA field managers that run projects in the slums. After the meeting we had a presentation about the projects that CSA runs on the Christ University campus itself. CSA introduced a lot of different projects on the Christ University campus to keep the environment clean and be environmentally conscious. The projects they run are: waste segregation, paper recycling, a compost unit, water recycling and even a bio-gas plant. All these projects make the Christ University a zero waste zone. After the presentation we had a tour around the campus visiting the actual paper recycling unit, the waste segregation place and the bio-gas plant. To be honest it's pretty impressive to see that all of this is actually located on the campus and working out pretty good.

After a few days at Christ University I'm pleasantly surprised with everything that is going on there and I think the campus and it's students are very nice as far as I know now.
