Bangalore

This was my first full time work week for the CSA. My work day looks like the following: from 10:00 till 12:30 I work on the website that I’m developing for the LR Nagar projects. I do this at home because there is no internet at the CSA office. Until now I have been working on a plan for my website. This document will be a proposal for the CSA and my Dutch teachers to give feedback on and based on that I will make a second version or start the development of the website.
At 13:30 I start my walk to LR Nagar where I arrive at 13:50. First I have to get the key to the library which I can get at the Greenland school. Inside the library, that is a little room with books, I can find the key for the computer center. At 14:00 the lessons start with the batch from Greenland school. They are really motivated and clever children so they are easy to work with. After the Greenland batch there is another batch and they are also very motivated and smart, especially a few girls who really want to learn a lot. After that is a batch with younger children who only work with Paint so far. The final batch consists of children around the age of 12 who are not that good with computers yet and some boys can be annoying because they want to play non-educative games.
It is overall nice to teach there and the children call you “Brother” there what I find really funny. And when they need your help they say: “Brother, brother, please come”. Most of the children are quite easy to work with. The hardest part is the language, even though they speak English, the accent is really different. The other thing I ran into the first week as teacher is that there are of course children who don’t want to listen. This can be hard sometimes but luckily I my neighbors are studying to be teachers and they gave me some advise that helped me a lot. This first week I mainly focused on Paint and PowerPoint because they already knew Paint a little bit and PowerPoint is quite easy. One thing that they don’t understand is how to keep your documents organized. All the PC systems are one big mess, so it would be nice if I’ll be allowed to clean them up.
It is therefor really nice to do these lessons in the computer center and I hope that I can keep coming up with new things to teach the children.

Stay tuned for more!
