Bangalore

Life is good in Bangalore! It’s been a while since I updated my blog and I have a some good stuff to share so here we go!

The first thing to mention is that we have a new guy from HAN University on our apartment floor. His name is David and he studies education. He arrived on Friday the 13th and I helped him to get to know the area and he Christ University. His job here will be to work three days a week with the teacher in the Transit school in the slums and two days a week at Goethe-Institut. This Goethe-Institut is a German school based in Bangalore. It’s quite a fancy school with smart boards and AC. There is also a fancy restaurant on the upper floor were Klara, Caroline (my German roommates) and I had dinner.

The work at the CSA is going well, I submitted my website plan for feedback and all the teachers and Mr. Johny Joseph was positive. I also conducted an interview with Mr. Johny Joseph for my research assignments. I think the interview went pretty well. Right now I work from Monday till Wednesday in the slums and on Thursday and Friday at the CSA office on the website.

Of course we do a lot of nice activities besides the work while we are here in India. One of those was an epic party on the roof of our apartment. Our apartment boss invited everybody who lives here over to the roof to have a beer! We had a blast that evening and I got to know a lot of people who live here. The people are very nice and social and it was great to get to know them better. To give you an idea of the layout, the first two floors in the apartment are Americans, the third floor is from Norway and the fourth floor is ours, the dutch/german people.
Another thing we did in the weekend is that we went for a swimming pool. After 1,5 hours traveling by bus we finally found a swimming pool, it was not the one we were looking for in the first place but whatever it’s a pool at least. The place was called Waterworld and was quite nice. There was a pool with artificial waves, a lot of water slides and a pool for the little kids. All the pools were pretty small but at least we could swim in fairly clean water and enjoy the slides. A fun fact is that the adult men in the pool behaved like the 10-year-old kids in the Netherlands who go to a pool. They were constantly bullshitting with each other and it was fun to see. Another thing is that the woman had to swim in their clothing, which seemed very uncomfortable.

Another nice event is that we went for dinner in a quite chic restaurant were we paid way too much for the food and it wasn't even very delicious at all. But one cool future it had was a game corner were we could play flip the cup and beer pong for free! While we are playing all the Indian people were watching because the paste we could drink the beer in stunned them. Actually we were the only group who would actually drink the beer while playing beer pong... I guess Indian people don't like free beer. After the dinner we went to a bar called Harrys where we had a beer and talked to some Indian guys. They told us a lot about Bangalore and corrupt politics and that kind of stuff.

Last week they had the semi finals of the Cricked world championships. India had to play against Australia. Unfortunately India lost with 233 VS 328 points for Australia. During the world cup and especially when India had to play there were a lot op TV screens in shops and restaurants broadcasting cricket matches. So I kind of understand how the games works now and you can basically say that it’s kind of the same as baseball if you superficially look at it. The finals are tomorrow between New Zealand and Australia. New Zealand is the favorite here in Bangalore so I guess they are the stronger team.

Oh yeah and next week I am going on vacation to Goa! I’ll be staying there in a hostel from the first till 6th of April. Goa is famous for it’s beaches and awesome party’s so I’m sure that I’ll have a great time there.

I’ll make sure to give you an update when I’m back from vacation!
