While the Tiber river is a geographical landmark, it also aids in a much larger story. The Tiber river was a central landmark to the Romans, during times of peace, Romans were able to move and grow away from the river due to the advances in engineering that allowed water to be pumped from the river into houses and streets, showing Rome's prosperity, but during war times, Romans would revert back towards the city. The ability to move back and forth depending on Rome's status show the adaptability and resilience of the Roman people. Another strategic ability of the Roman people was the use of the Tiber island that sits in the middle of the river. This island allowed for not only military usage but for trade as well. Ships would sail through the river and would dock and the Tiber island where military and trade deals could go down.
