My Rome

This is an Italian Renaissance church in Vatican City, which is also the residence of the pope, within the city of Rome. The artistic facades of the church were mainly designed by Bramante, Michelangelo, Maderno, and Bernini. Saint Peter’s is the most renowned work of Renaissance architecture and one of the largest churches in the world. While it is not the mother church of the Catholic Church nor the cathedral of Rome, Saint Peter’s is regarded as one of the holiest Catholic shrines. This is because in Catholic tradition, this church is said to be the burial site of Saint Peter, one of Christ’s Apostles and also the first Pope. For this reason, along with this being the Pope’s residence it is also where many of the Popes are interred. There has been a church on these grounds for many centuries and under Saint Peter’s are a series of tombs and crypts that hold early Christian remains. This church I believe tells Rome’s story as a whole, because of its grandeur, not only in size, but also in importance. I believe this shows the pride of the Roman people and the magnitude of how it still carries such importance today.
