Summer Travel 2015

Pretty relaxing day of traveling today as we made our way into southern Alberta and on up towards Calgary. I’d forgotten what a good size city Calgary was, but out trusty GPS (thanks Apple) seemed to take us through the city quite smoothly. Actually, I’ve been using an app called “Here” which allows you to use your app offline, thus saving a bunch of data costs, especially once we ended up in Canada. Only downfall to the app that I can see is that you have to download each of the states/provinces you will be traveling thru before you start out on any trip.

Lake Louise, Alberta

Pretty relaxing day of traveling today as we made our way into southern Alberta and on up towards Calgary. I’d forgotten what a good size city Calgary was, but out trusty GPS (thanks Apple) seemed to take us through the city quite smoothly. Anyway, after Calgary we headed towards Banff and Lake Louise where we have put up for the night. No tent camping here at the moment as I guess they have had a number of bears in and around the campground lately. As of now, we really have not yet seen any real wildlife to talk about. Janet thought she might have seen an elk today, but I didn’t see it. Had a chance though to stop occasionally today to take some pictures, including a few at Lake Louise. Little surprise when we got there as we had hoped to see the beautiful turquoise waters of this lake, but instead, we got to see the still frozen lake from the winter months. I guess Lake Louise freezes up to 3’ each year and the water never gets above 50º degrees, Thought of staying at the Fairmount Hotel while I was there, but don’t think I could afford even the maid’s quarters.

Been a nice relaxing evening with no wifi and little activity out here at this time of the year. We did take a walk down by the river, and now we get to go to bed listening to the noisy trains which somehow seem to go by here about every 45 minutes.
