Although today was mostly a driving day, I did make a short stop in Langtry, TX to visit the exhibit profiling Judge Roy Bean. Of course, the small town is named after Lillie Langtry, a famous turn of the century British actress. The Judge had a complete fascination with Lillie and named his saloon The Jersey Lilly--misspelled by the painter. He also built an Opera House so she could perform in style but actually used it as his home. Miss Lilly eventually visited the town in 1904 but not until ten months after the Judge's death. You might remember the 1972 movie "The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean" starring Paul Newman.
