RV Trip

A day of rain did not deter me from driving an hour south to Vacherie, LA to visit this plantation. The house was a gift from sugarcane planter Jacques Roman to his wife, Celina, to entice her to move to the plantation. With a few thousand acres and a few hundred slaves, the plantation was successful for some years. The plantation's name comes from 28 Virginia Live Oaks planted in two equal rows 80 feet apart; the settler who planted in oaks in the early 1700's is unknown. The view of the Alley either from the street or from the second floor balcony of the house is pretty impressive. And, to make it a great visit, there are two Mint Julep stations. Gotta love those Cajuns.
