Well, after my tiring weekend doing the Champion Dash, I began the week exhausted. It was hard to stay awake during the morning assembly and this week's was especially uneventful - it mostly consisted of the Vice Principal handing out awards to the winners of the online costume contest. After what seemed like an eternity, we headed back to class and had a normal morning. On Monday afternoon we had our second school soccer match (that I again couldn't play in).. and we won 1-0! It was still frustrating that I wasn't allowed to play but I was proud of my team nonetheless. Tuesday included more soccer practice when we played during gym and during our KNS period. Apparently, our class is the only class that the KNS teacher actually likes so he's decided to be our team's unofficial soccer coach. Subsequently, we now practice soccer during every KNS period. This leads me to Wednesday when we played soccer during four periods of the day.. That's three hours. It was fun at first but by the end of the day I managed to have three bruised toenails and a nasty blister since I was wearing my walking shoes that are definitely not intended for intense soccer matches. I've since been nursing my toenails, blister, and knee wound from the Champion Dash. There's not much I can do about the bruised toenails but my knee is healing well and it doesn't look infected anymore!
Anyway, on a different note, I'm officially done with my general college applications! I submitted the last one yesterday after a final essay review by Lily; she was very helpful in her critiques and assisted me in editing 8 (? - maybe more) essays for my college apps. I still have my SOU Honors College essay to finish but other than that, I'm done! Now I just get to wait until I get back to the U.S. for the responses to arrive...
Other than that, this week has been pretty typical. Today (November 6th) is my host grandmother's birthday! I think she's turning 65 and Dung is planning a dinner for her on Saturday night so we can all be a part of the celebration. I wished her a happy birthday this morning when I got up (chuc mung sinh nhat) and she smiled and thanked me. I'm not sure what the deal is with gifts since Dung didn't talk about that and when I offered to make a cake she said that her mother doesn't like cakes.. I'm planning on finding a gift for her tomorrow in the city though since I'll be there for a language lesson; she definitely deserves a gift from me and I want to show my appreciation for her since it's hard for me to express that in Vietnamese. It's nearly dinner time now and later I'm planning on going to The Anh's to play on his Play Station. His sister moved to Australia to study abroad so now he officially lives in the Ecopark and his father moved all of their stuff from their house in the city. Now he has a TV and Play Station in his room!
I'll be back with an update Sunday; sorry this one is so late, I totally forgot to write it last night. Thanks for reading and have a great Friday!
