My diary

Just photos today since there are so many from our morning swim, lunch, trip to the coast and sand dunes, and dinner.

Top left: Dung in the water today this morning. We went for a swim after breakfast and were the only people at the beach.
Top right: The view of the beach from the hotel patio.
Bottom left: My favorite dish of the day - white fish (I think swordfish) cooked in a sweet chili oil sauce with green onions.

Sand Dunes
As I learned on the bus ride over, the sand dunes were about a kilometer from the road where our tour bus stopped. So, I hiked with our huge tour group up soft sand to the sand dunes. The hike was actually pretty tiring as it requires more energy to push off of soft, moving sand (than it does paved ground), it was very hot and sunny, and most of the hike was uphill. We arrived and I listened (pointlessly) to the instructions. Of course they were in Vietnamese and I've never been sand duning before SO... when I went first I hit the bottom of the dune, BAM, flew off the board, and barrel-rolled to a stop. I was greeted by applause and laughter when I stood up and even laughed at myself a little before climbing back up the dune to ride down again. Though the fall didn't really hurt and the ride itself was awesome, I was nervous about falling off again so I rode with the guides on my second and third tries. As the group did when I fell, I laughed when some of the others fell off their boards and I also didn't feel so embarrassed about my spill.. After everyone got a chance to slide down we hiked down to the buses and drove back to the hotel to get ready for dinner.

Top left: The view at the start of our hike.
Top right: The trail we hiked on to get to the sand dunes.
2nd left & right: Wild cows grazing on the hillside.
3rd left: Native plants and brush on the trail of the hike.
3rd right: Another shot of the beautiful view of the valley.
Bottom left: The sand dune we slid down.
Bottom right: One of the guides giving Ling and her dad a push down the sand dune.

Sidenote: There are pictures of me riding down the dunes but they are on someone else's phone so I wasn't able to get them tonight.

For dinner we had a similar experience to last night in choosing the components of our seafood feast. We had a few different types of clams, snails, greens, this peculiar looking shelled creature, and hotpot with fish.

Top left: Our choice fish. I've seen this type of fish before but can't remember what it's called.
Top right: My first course of clams with a variety of sauces.
Bottom left: The boiling hotpot.
Bottom right: The shelled animal we chose to have with dinner. I think it is some kind of lobster..

I hope you enjoy the pictures, I'll be back tomorrow with more. Thanks for viewing!
