The Opportunist Traveler

After much deliberation we decided to stay at The Westin hotel
Langkawi. We were not disappointed. The hotel was positioned on the southern coast of the island next to the yacht club. The hotel had numerous restaurants, pools and a private beach offering an array of
water sports, including kayaking and sailing. The buffet breakfast was probably the best hotel breakfast I had eaten in Asia. Attached to the hotel was a spa offering a selection of massages. The aim of the
weekend trip was to relax and unwind and The Westin Hotel allowed us to do just that.
The highlight of the trip was the jet ski trip. We met our guide at the
yacht club and followed him out of the harbor on our jet ski. Rich
drove the jet ski while I hung on for dear life at the back. Our guide
took us around the neighboring islands to the south of Langkawi. We whizzed through the back waters and explored inside caves. There was one stretch of open water which was flat and our guide told us to
go as fast as possible. I was just glad I didn't fall off! After a couple of
hours we stopped off at one of the islands and climbed up a hill past
monkeys to reach a fresh water lake in the middle. We stripped down
to our swimming costumes and swam in the water. We then climbed
back onto our jet ski's and headed off to another island where we saw
hundreds of hawks diving into the sea trying to catch fish. The tour
was finished with a picnic on a private beach. The jet ski trip was
definitely a memorable experience and a great way to explore the area.
In the afternoon we went sailing and Rich tried to teach me how to
sail. I got the hang of it and managed to sail us up and down the
beach a couple of times. The rest of the weekend was spent having
a massage, eating delicious food in the restaurants and relaxing by
the pool. I would definitely recommend the hotel and hope to go back another time.
